A future chieftain

A fugitive prince
When Crown Prince Jasimir turns out to have faked his death, Fie’s ready to cut her losses—and perhaps his throat. But he offers a wager that she can’t refuse: protect him from a ruthless queen, and he’ll protect the Crows when he reigns.
A too-cunning bodyguard
Hawk warrior Tavin has always put Jas’s life before his, magically assuming the prince’s appearance and shadowing his every step. But what happens when Tavin begins to want something to call his own?

REVIEW
Holy Crow! I don’t even know where to begin with this review. I’ve just finished this YA Fantasy and I’m still reeling from the roller coaster that is The Merciful Crow. This is hands down one of the best YA Fantasy’s I’ve read in a long time. I’m so glad it is out in the world for everyone to pick up because it deserves all the love!
Fie! I can’t even tell you how much of a badass she is. As a Crow she is being trained to become the next Chief of her band of Crows but when she finally gains the title it is in a world wind of chaos. She is left to protect two people she loathes at the expense of her family. She continues to beat down every obstacle that comes into her path and grows immensely. I freaking love her!
Tavin. Oh Tavin. The king’s double and Fie’s pain in the ass. His wit gets under her skin but believe me when I tell you that this slow burn will definitely pay off. I’m just gonna leave it at that…
Jasamir. Now he’s one you just want to smack some sense into. He’s selfish and whiny and you just want to hate him. With that said, he probably has one of the most identifiable character arcs in this story and grows immensely. You just have to put up with him for a bit before you decide whether to love or hate him all the way through.
This book was complex, the plot well developed, and the character relationships are on point! I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast paced, layered, YA fantasy. I need book two right now!

AUTHOR BIO
Born and raised at the end of the Oregon Trail, Margaret Owen spent her childhood haunting the halls of Powell’s Books. After earning her degree in Japanese, her love of espresso called her north to Seattle, where she worked in everything from thrift stores to presidential campaigns. The common thread between every job can be summed up as: lessons were learned.
She now spends her days wrestling disgruntled characters onto the page, and negotiating a long-term hostage situation with her two monstrous cats. (There is surprisingly little difference between the two.)
