Review: Love & Gelato

This YA Contemporary is so adorable! I loved the characters and the setting. If you want a feel good, food filled read than travel to Italy with Lina in Love & Gelato. You’ll be looking up the nearest Gelato shop near you when you’re done, or booking your flight to Tuscany!

About Love & Gelato

Love&Gelato“I made the wrong choice.”

Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn’t in the mood for Italy’s famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She’s only there because it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn’t around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home.

But then she is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina’s uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother’s footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It’s a secret that will change everything she knew about her mother, her father—and even herself.

People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more.

My Review

5 Stars

I loved this book! Jenna Evans Welch has such a great writing style. I listened to this on Scribd and the audio was fantastic. I enjoyed the book from beginning to end and was so intrigued with the journey Lina goes on when she gets to Italy. She’d never thought she’d end up in a cemetery in the middle of Tuscany, Italy when her mother got sick but now that she’s there things become clear, she didn’t know her mother as well as she’d thought.

Lina is such a great MC in this contemporary. You can really feel how things have affected her and the uncertainty she has about her situation. The minute she pulls up to the cemetery and is face to face with her “father” she already has plans of going back. I really enjoyed her growth and journey in this book. She has to adjust to meeting and getting to know a father she never knew she had and along the way she also learns that her mother kept more than just her father from her. You’ll love experiencing Italy through Lina when you read this  book because she’s just so easy to relate to. I wanted to be her friend when I was finished with this book. It definitely left me smiling and wishing I could live in Tuscany with her!

Ren! I love Ren. He makes for a great love interest. He is just so sweet and you can’t help but fall in love with him. He helps Lina find the answers to the questions she’s left with after reading parts of her mother’s journal by taking her to all the places her mother mentions. I wanted to hop on the back of Ren’s scooter to see all the sites.

This book will definitely bring a smile to your face after you read it. Definitely one of my favorite contemporaries ever!
