Starry Eyes Blog Tour Author Q&A

I have been loving the contemporaries these days and this one is definitely on my list! The concept is unique, the romance real, and the setting sounds magical. What would you do if you were lost in the wilderness with the one person you’d never expect to be spending the night under the stars with, whether planned or unplanned? Make sure to add this YA Contemporary to your TBR’s!

A big Thank You to Fantastic Flying Book Club for picking me to participate in the Starry Eyes Blog Tour! I’ve really enjoyed working with them and can’t wait to see what other tours they’ll be hosting in the coming months! If you haven’t checked out their blog yet, you are missing out!

Ever since last year’s homecoming dance, best friends-turned-best enemies Zorie and Lennon have made an art of avoiding each other. It doesn’t hurt that their families are the modern day, Californian version of the Montagues and Capulets.

But when a group camping trip goes south, Zorie and Lennon find themselves stranded in the wilderness. Alone. Together.

What could go wrong?

With no one but each other for company, Zorie and Lennon have no choice but to hash out their issues via witty jabs and insults as they try to make their way to safety. But fighting each other while also fighting off the forces of nature makes getting out of the woods in one piece less and less likely.

And as the two travel deeper into Northern California’s rugged backcountry, secrets and hidden feelings surface. But can Zorie and Lennon’s rekindled connection survive out in the real world? Or was it just a result of the fresh forest air and the magic of the twinkling stars?

Interview

 1. Starry Eyes is such a unique story, what inspired you to write about two teens lost in the wilderness together?
“My brother and his wife got married after becoming terrifically lost on a hike. they were stranded on a mountain at night, so they had to sleep on the ground and listen to wild animal sounds in the surrounding dark woods, in fear of their life. I mean, if that’s not romance, I don’t know what is! “
2. You write books categorized in different genre’s, what genre has been your favorite to write so far?
“Writing historical is my favorite. I adore writing contemporary romance, but my heart is full when I’m writing in the past.”
3. What is your writing process like? Are you a pantser or a plotter?
“Both. When I started writing, I plotted entire books. Now? I just need to know the book’s inciting incident, motivation of protags, and a couple key plot elements. That’s all I need to start writing, then I plot 2 to 3 chapters ahead, plotting as I write.”
4. What was some of the best writing advice you were given?
“Always be wring the next thing.”
5. What are you currently reading?
“I’ve been on back-to-back writing deadlines, so reading was on hold. I’m about to start OBSIDIO, the third book in the Illuminae Files”
6. And the most important question, what breeds are your dogs and what are their names?
“I have a pug named lorek (the armored bear in The Golden Compass) and a rescued dog that’s Chihuahua + Australian Cattle dog, and her name is Luna.”
