In Every Generation – Group Review

When an eARC of In Every Generation became available I was more than excited to buddy read it with some of my favorite people! Christy and Kelly over on Bookcrushin’ made this experience even more fun because we all got to live through the nostalgia together and blew through our reading schedule faster than we all thought we would!

We were more than delighted to have the opportunity to read this book and thank Disney-Hyperion for the Advance Reader Copy, and in no way did it influence our thoughts below.

A new Slayer for a new generation…

Frankie Rosenberg is passionate about the environment, a sophomore at New Sunnydale High School, and the daughter of the most powerful witch in Sunnydale history. Her mom, Willow, is slowly teaching her magic on the condition that she use it to better the world. But Frankie’s happily quiet life is upended when new girl Hailey shows up with news that the annual Slayer convention has been the target of an attack, and all the Slayers—including Buffy, Faith, and Hailey’s older sister Vi—might be dead. That means it’s time for this generation’s Slayer to be born.

But being the first ever Slayer-Witch means learning how to wield a stake while trying to control her budding powers. With the help of Hailey, a werewolf named Jake, and a hot but nerdy sage demon, Frankie must become the Slayer, prevent the Hellmouth from opening again, and find out what happened to her Aunt Buffy, before she’s next.

Get ready for a whole new story within the world of Buffy!

The first in an all-new series by New York Times best-selling author Kendare Blake continues the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer featuring the next generation of Scoobies and Slayers who must defeat a powerful new evil.

Review

Initial reactions: GO

Kelly: The Scoobs are back in just the perfect way! Full of call backs and nostalgia but also with a fun new story and crew!

Christy: This was everything I wanted and everything I didn’t KNOW I wanted.

Sarah: The nostalgia!

What did you expect going into In Every Generation? Did it live up to your hopes?

Kelly: I had absolutely no idea the book was even a thing when I was invited to buddy read, and so it blew my expectations right out of the Hellmouth.

Christy: Canon is kind of messy (the rights have changed hands a few times and there have been comics and other books written in the world) so I wasn’t sure where this book would pick up. This is the reboot we all need.

Sarah: I had no idea what to expect but I had a feeling it’d have to be good if Kendare Blake wrote it!

Let’s talk about characters. Which old characters surprised you? Which of the new characters did you love?

Kelly: I mean Spike in tweed!! I loved Frankie, such a fun eco-witch!

Christy: Kelly would totally be the Frankie in the Buffy world. Ok, I was not expecting to see Oz and that just thrilled me. Also I loved the new scoobies AND Grimloch.

Sarah: Grimlock is my favorite new face and I need more of him for sure! I literally squealed when Spike showed up! It was fun to see a new generation mixed with the original characters we love.

What do you hope to see in the next book?

Kelly: I am looking forward to finding out what happened to all the Slayers, as this is still a bit of an unsolved mystery throughout this book, meanwhile, Frankie to hone her skills as a Slayer and get ready to fight some more demons!

Christy: I, too, am very anxious about where the Slayers are. Where’s Faith – I need her in my life

Sarah: So many important questions to be answered for sure! I also need to know what happened to the Slayers. It’s probably the biggest unknown.
