ABOUT THE BOOK
Title: Two Like Me & You
Author: Chad Alan Gibbs
Publication date: May 20, 2019
Genres: Young Adult, Contemporary
Synopsis:
Edwin Green’s ex-girlfriend is famous. We’re talking cover-of-every-tabloid-in-the-grocery-store-line famous. She dumped Edwin one year ago on what he refers to as Black Saturday, and in hopes of winning her back, he’s spent the last twelve months trying to become famous himself. It hasn’t gone well.
But when a history class assignment pairs Edwin with Parker Haddaway, the mysterious new girl at school, she introduces him to Garland Lenox, a nursing-home-bound World War II veteran who will change Edwin’s life forever.
The three escape to France, in search of the old man’s long-lost love, and as word of their adventure spreads, they become media darlings. But when things fall apart, they also become the focus of French authorities. In a race against time, who will find love, and who will only find more heartache?

INTERVIEW
What has been your favorite part about being a debut author?
Two Like Me and You is my first novel, but my fourth book. I’ve written three non-fiction books that I guess you could describe as Christian travel books. Two were traditionally published by Zondervan/HarperCollins, and the other was indie published. After college, I began writing my first novel, but some essays I’d written caught the eye of an editor at Zondervan and that led to a two-book deal that kept me busy writing non-fiction for several years. It wasn’t until our first son was born and I couldn’t really travel as much that I sat down and tried fiction again. I guess my favorite part of being a debut novelist is the reactions from readers who only know me from my non-fiction. Two Like Me and You is a pretty significant departure from anything I’ve ever published, so that’s been fun.
Were there any parts of your journey to publication that surprised you?
I’m always a little surprised at how slow and frustrating the process can be, but also pleasantly surprised by the community of authors out there who are always more than willing to help you out.
What drew you to writing a YA Contemporary?
I’m not sure. I do read YA, though not exclusively. But this novel, my next one, and my next one are all set in high school. Maybe it’s just escapism from being a grownup with kids to raise, and bills to pay, or perhaps young adult stories are just the most fun to read and write.
What inspired you to write a story that includes romance, adventure, and a bit of
history?
The book is a bit of a mashup of two ideas I’d been kicking around for a while. I remember watching American Idol like really early on, maybe season two or three, and there was a contestant who always wore a flower in her hair for her boyfriend back home. Then one episode she wasn’t wearing it, and when Seacrest asked about it, she said they’d broken up. Since then I’ve always been sort of fascinated with the idea of a boyfriend or girlfriend left behind when the other becomes randomly famous. The idea of a couple of teens taking a WWII veteran back to France to search for his lost love came later, and the plan to mash up the two ideas came when I wasn’t sure I could write an entire book out of just one of the stories.
What are you currently working on?
Another YA contemporary. This one a Gatsby retelling set in Florida’s Gulf Coast during the financial crisis and housing market crash. I’ve finished another novel called The Rome of Fall that is a high school football story loosely based on Julius Caesar and half set in the early ‘90s and half modern day. It should release in 2020.
What are you currently reading?
I just finished The Hate U Give—I know, I’m a little late on that one. I’m about to start The Wondering Years by my friend Knox McCoy.
