Happy 4th of July to everyone! AND a huge Happy One Week Anniversary to My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton! I was lucky to be able to attend the launch event last week and can’t wait to share my recap below!
*Don’t forget to keep scrolling because there are two giveaways for a chance to win a hardcover of My Plain Jane and some swag! You know you love some good bookish swag!
About the Book
Move over, Charlotte Brontë. The authors of the New York Times bestselling My Lady Jane are back with an irreverent spin on Jane Eyre—a tale of mischief, romance, and supernatural mayhem perfect for fans of The Princess Bride or A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue.
You may think you know the story. Penniless orphan Jane Eyre begins a new life as a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she meets one dark, brooding Mr. Rochester—and, Reader, she marries him. Or does she?
Prepare for an adventure of Gothic proportions in this stand-alone follow-up to My Lady Jane, which was called “an utter delight” (ALA Booklist, starred review), and “an uproarious historical fantasy that’s not to be missed” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

Event Recap
One week ago I stepped into the Salt Lake City Library for yet another event hosted by our amazing book sellers from The King’s English Bookshop…
As you can see they are hard at work …
This is when the waiting began…
Arrival!!
The ladies began with the usual chat about where the idea for the series came from, apparently a trip to Disneyland turned into a detour off the interstate and into the library of Pepperdine University…
From there they came up with the idea to write books based on famous Jane’s (real or fictional) whose lives revolved around tragedies so that they can turn them into something happier!
This idea turned into three stories!
My Lady Jane (2016) which features the story of Jane Grey who ruled England for a total of 9 days before being beheaded.
My Plain Jane (2018) who is about Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre.
Calamity Jane (2020), an American frontierswoman and professional scout known for being an acquaintance of Wild Bill Hickok and fighting against Indians.
The writing process for these three ladies is very unique and includes one week away in a family cabin where they spend their days writing, eating, writing some more, and then reading each of their chapters out loud to each other at the end of the day. This allows them the ability to make suggestions or recommendations and when the week is over they have half the book drafted already.
The dynamic of these three ladies can only be described in the following video…ENJOY!
Now go out there and buy this book because you know it’s going to be fantastic with its witty banter and Ghostbusting good times!
About the Authors
We’re the authors of the young adult novels, MY LADY JANE, and MY PLAIN JANE, which is coming in June 2018. Our group is made up of Brodi Ashton (New York Times bestselling author of the EVERNEATH series and DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY), Cynthia Hand (New York Times bestselling author of the UNEARTHLY series, THE LAST TIME WE SAY GOODBYE, THE AFTERLIFE OF HOLLY CHASE, and THE HOW AND THE WHY), and Jodi Meadows (New York Times bestselling author of the INCARNATE trilogy, the ORPHAN QUEEN duology, and the FALLEN ISLES trilogy). Between the three of us we’ve written nineteen novels, a bunch of novellas, a handful of short stories, and a couple of really bad poems, but we have the most fun working on our books together. We’re friends. We’re writers. We’re fixing history by rewriting one sad story at a time.

I can’t wait to listen to this one! I thought their ideas were super interesting too! I can’t wait to see how Calamity Jane’s story turns out and what they bring into the story. People changing into animals for book one, ghostbusters for book two, so book three will be really fun to learn more about!
Thank you! I’m glad you love it! It’s been a fun year of blogging!
