Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

Welcome to my new and improved The Clever Reader blog! I’ve moved it form blogspot over here to wordpress and I couldn’t be happier. I’m so excited to get to know all of you. Enjoy!

I want to thank insidemylibrarymind for creating this tag. I discovered this tag on bookprincessreviews blog last week and thought it’d be a great way to feature all the fun books I’ve read so far this year! If you haven’t already, take a stroll through insidemylibrarymind and bookprincessreviews blogs at the links above.

1. BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2017?

This was way to difficult to narrow down to just one so I thought I’d feature my top five!

2. BEST SEQUEL OF 2017 SO FAR?

Lord of Shadows, the ending….killed me! It was so intense and just left you in emotional distress. SO SO good!! Also, I have to put Windwitch in here also because it’s just that good! The character building was taken to a whole new level with this book two!

3. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO?

Past books

I have four out of these five books already, I just need to get reading them!! Again, it’s too difficult to just pick one!

4. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF THE SECOND HALF OF 2017?

future books

2017 is shaping up to be a pretty epic YA release year!! I can’t wait for all of these fantastic books to release in the next six months!!

5. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT?

Carvethemark.jpg

I had such high hopes for Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth but was sadly disappointed. The pacing was slow and the timeline was a bit too messy for me. I also didn’t felt that some aspects were too easy. I will still pick up book two when it releases and hopefully this will be redeemed.

6. BIGGEST SURPRISE?

labrynth.jpg

I honestly hadn’t heard much about this book but the cover kept catching my attention so I decided to pick it up on Audible when it was on sale and I’m so glad I did. Labryinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova was such a fun adventure for me. I loved every minute of it!

7. FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR NEW TO YOU) ?

Not only are these authors my favorite debut authors this year but they are also locals! Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves & The Hundredth Queen by Emily R. King are both fantastic!

8. NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH?

Baeduen…I mean Audean from Windwitch  and Teach from BlackheartsLove these two boys!

9. NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER?

I have a few newest favorite characters because let’s get real, we can’t just have one. Not with so many fantastic YA books out there right now!

Britta Flannery from Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerhill, Evalayn from Dark Breaks the Dawn by Sara B. Larson, and Meira from the Snow Like Ashes trilogy by Sara Raasch!

10. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY?

gemdixie.jpg

Gem and Dixie by Sara Zarr hit me close to home. I connected with this book so much on a personal level. My sister is my best friend but we weren’t always like that so this book really resonated with me. Love, Love, Loved it.

11. BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY?

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon, and Daughter of a Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller all made me so happy! They were so much fun to read!

12. FAVORITE BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATION YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR?

everything

I haven’t seen any books that I’ve read this year in adaptation but I did go see Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon which I read for bookclub last November. It was a good adaptation.

13. FAVORITE REVIEW YOU’VE WRITTEN THIS YEAR?

star-touched queen

My favorite review I’ve written was actually over on YAandWine for The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi. I enjoyed every minute of writing my review for this beautiful book.

14. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU BOUGHT OR RECEIVED SO FAR THIS YEAR?

The under jacket for Dark Breaks the Dawn is definitely one of the most spectacular dust jackets I’ve ever seen. Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor was just so beautifully written, you felt every bit of this dreamy YA novel.

15. WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?

All of these beautiful books!

  2. Sarah, your answers were so much fun to read! This one was super hard because 2017 is such a ridiculous good book year. I’m so unprepared for that. I can’t wait to see your reviews for Hunted and The Hate U Give. I can’t wait to read both of them. And oooh, I super want to see what you think of Illuminae! I really think you would enjoy! 🙂 Wonderful post, Sarah!! ❤

    1. Thank you!! It was hard choosing but I’ve also only read 41 books this year! There were definitely hard ones to choose from in regards to those I haven’t read. Once I read Hunted and The Hate U Gave I will definitely let you know! I have both Illuminae and Gemina but haven’t gotten to them yet! They are on my list!

    1. Mine too! The Audible version of Caraval was really fun too! I’ve heard the Audible version of Illuminae is fantastic because it has an array of character narrators. I’m hoping to get reading that one soon too!!
